Villa catches fire in Sangolda

Home appliances and furniture worth about Rs 9 lakh were destroyed in a fire at a villa in Sangolda on Thursday evening.

The incident took place at about 5.40 pm when the family renting out the villa had gone out. A short circuit in the air conditioning unit in the villa is suspected to have caused a fire.

Neighbours noticed the flames and alerted the fire station.

A fire brigade from the Porvorim fire station went to the site and extinguished the fire.

The AC, bed, sofa, table, false ceiling and other items were destroyed in the fire.
