The matter which was to be heard on Tuesday cannot be heard next Tuesday either as it is a public holiday forcing the next hearing to be scheduled on August 22, just a day before the state goes to elections.
Speaking to The Goan, Ramakant Khalap of the Congress said that the party will take heart in the fact that they could still complete the hearing before the people of Valpoi go to vote as well as the fact that the HC has already in writing ordered that the outcome of the election will in any case be subject to the outcome of the petition.
When the matter comes up for hearing, it is likely that a new bench will be in place. The HC admitted the petition on grounds that there were substantial questions of law that had come to the fore.
Vishwajit disqualification plea adjourned to Aug 22
The petition filed by the Indian National Congress seeking the disqualification of Vishwajit Rane from contesting the elections was adjourned to August 22 since the bench would be changing on Wednesday given the imminent retirement of Justice F M Reis.
