Even after four days, angry voters are yet to come to terms with the defection of the Congress MLAs and on Sunday some of them sought divine intervention against the eight MLAs.
Some voters of Bardez visited the famous Bodgeshwar Temple in Mapusa and prayed to Lord Bodgeshwar seeking retribution against the eight legislators that carried out the “unholy” act.
The voters carried out a specific ritual by placing nine plantains in the temple and carried out ‘gharanas’ (prayer) that the eight MLAs should be taught a fitting lesson within 15 days for cheating the people of Goa.
“The eight plantains are for the eight MLAs and the ninth one is for the person who came with the offer to defect. I am not into politics but the recent political development has spoiled the name of our State. Lord Bodgehswar should do what is fit,” a person was heard telling the temple priest.
“These MLAs took pledge in front of religious places and have cheated God and the people of Goa,” he added.
Slamming the eight MLAs for defecting to BJP, a resident of Verla, Anil Kelkar challenged them to resign and face the public in fresh elections.
“All these MLAs took pledge in a temple, church and a mosque while some had also taken pledge before Lord Bodgeshwar that they will never defect. People of Goa are very hurt due to the unholy act of theirs. We have prayed to Lord Bodgeshwar to take action against these MLAs and punish them,” Kelkar said after attending the rituals in the temple.
A resident of Moira, Rohidas Shirodkar said that politics has become business for these politicians.
“These MLAs say they joined the ruling party because of development. But the fact is that one can do development even in the opposition. Former CMs late Manohar Parrikar and Pratapsingh Rane are examples of this,” said Shirodkar, who was part of the group to pray in the temple.
