VPK BoDs accused of irregularities

PONDA
Two founder members of VPK Urban Co-operative Credit Society at Mardol have accused the Board of Directors of irregularities by sanctioning a loan beyond the permitted limit, while also waiving off the loan of selected persons.
The Society Chairman Dr Surya Gawade has, however, denied the allegations and has said that business has been conducted in a transparent manner.
Addressing a news conference in Ponda, Damodar Mardolkar and Umesh Gawde, accused the Board of Directors of of irregularities.
In July, they had written to the Registrar of Co-operative Societies seeking action against the BoD for violating cooperative societies act and misusing public deposits.
According to Mardolkar, the current BoD has sanctioned a loan of about Rs 60 lakh, which is beyond the limit of Rs 25 lakh.
"The VPK society has permission to sanction a loan of up to Rs 25 lakh, but they have misused their powers and sanctioned the loan well above that limit. Around 277 persons have been sanctioned Rs 134 crores by violating the act." Mardolkar alleged.
They have demanded a vigilance enquiry into the matter by appointing administrator.
"This is public fund which is disbursed for loans. There is no recovery and hence, there is an overdue of loans. This will put the society in financial problems," Mardolkar added.
Umesh Gaude alleged that the BoD had also collected a "building fund" from borrowers and demanded a probe into this money.
When contacted, Dr Gawade refuted the allegations and claimed that the government had orally allowed them to sanction a loan of Rs 60 lakh. "Though we don't have anything in writing, the general body had taken a decision in this regards. Our business is transparent," he said.
Dr Gawade admitted that a "building fund" was collected from borrowers, but hastened to add, "these allegations have arisen due to politics."
