Wash rooms at MMC, Matanhy complex come under scanner of citizens again

Wash rooms at MMC, Matanhy complex come under scanner of citizens again

MARGAO
Wash rooms at the Margao Municipal Council and at the ground floor of the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative complex came under the scanner of citizens again.

If the ladies wash room at the MMC threw up questions of safety and privacy for the women, citizens questioned the delay by the authorities in taking up the work of repair of the wash room at the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative complex.

An agitated Margao Municipal lady councillor Nimesia Faleiro on Thursday took up cudgels for the women working at the Margao civic body, pointing out that there is neither safety nor privacy for members of the fairer sex using the wash room.

“I just casually decided to use the wash room located on the ground floor, only to find there is no latch by which the ladies can shut the door from inside. They have to literally hold the door while using the wash room,” the councillor said.

That’s not all. She pointed out that the second wash room for ladies has no safety, pointing out the passersby can have a clear look from outside in the absence of proper window.

Saying the women employees had brought the situation to the notice of the higher officials, but in vain, Faleiro has made a fervent plea to the Municipal chairperson and the Chief Officer to take cognisance of the condition of the wash room and take necessary measures. “When the government is talking about women and their safety and security, the wash rooms should have adequate safety,” she added.

At the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative complex, there’s no change in the condition of the wash rooms. Citizens visiting the wash rooms  find the taps and wash basin shut while the floor tiles still not repaired by the authorities. In fact, wash rooms at the ground floor of the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex have been craving for attention in recent times, but in vain.
