Water supply in parts of Bardez is likely to be affected after a main conveying PWD water pipeline burst at Tivim on Tuesday evening.
According to PWD officials, the incident happened at around 4 pm when a 700 mm pipeline ruptured at the joint leading to wastage of thousands of litres of water near the Hyundai showroom in Tivim.
The official said a sudden increase in water pressure may have led to opening up of the joint resulting in the leakage of the water.
The PWD officials swung into action to carry out repair work of the pipeline and are expected to fix the joint late in the night.
“Since it’s a main conveying line, water supply to parts of Mapusa, Aldona, Tivim, Saligao and Calangute will get affected on Wednesday,” a senior PWD officer informed.
As it is, water supply to Bardez has been affected for the last fortnight due to the ongoing repair work of the Tillari canal in Maharashtra.
Several areas were either not getting supply or the pressure was very low, forcing people to depend on water tankers for the supply.
