Barely days after a portion of the Valpoi Zonal Agricultural Office (ZAO) collapsed and left two staff members injured, the telephone building at Valpoi is also in a dilapidated condition and is in the danger collapse.

It may be recalled that a portion of the ZAO building fell off during working hours a week ago and caused injuries to two staffers. The incident had shocked people in Sattari taluka. This prompted the ZAO administration to shift to a neighbouring building.

The telephone building owned by Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) is also in a dilapidated condition and the roof seems to beon the verge of collapse, jeopardising the lives of staff and visitors at the office.

The entire BSNL telephone infrastructure in Sattari, which is controlled from the telephone building, could also get disrupted if the building sustains any damage.

It is learnt that VMC officials have directed the BSNL to vacate the weak premises, but the government-run telecom firm continues to operate from the building.

When contacted, VMC Chairperson Parveen Shaikh said VMC authorities are seriously concerned about the dipapidated condition of the building. “We have requested the BSNL to vacate the premises, which we had given to them on rent,” said Shaikh.
