Benaulim and Colva in June, but asserted that work on the 12-km long Margao Western bypass would commence as per schedule.Dhavalikar made his presence felt at Mungul on Wednesday morning following a request made by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai in view of huge apprehensions in the minds of the local populace that the bypass would submerge the villages along the route.After an inspection of the Mungul stretch, Dhavalikar told the media that the PWD will make provision for additional culverts for free flow of water in the water catchment areas of Seraulim and Benaulim. “We will study the ground situation during the monsoon. Accordingly, the PWD will suggest additional culverts of different kinds as part of anti-flood measures along the route. We will come to know the ground situation only after inspection in June,” he said, while saying that the PWD officials will study the grievances and come back to the people within 8-10 days.“I am proud to say that the bypass work has been tendered for an amount of Rs 201 crore. We have a good contractor from Ahmedabad for the work. He will complete the project in two years before handing the bypass to the state PWD,” he said.Vijai told the media that he brought the PWD Minister to Mungul inspect the bypass stretch here as fears have been raised that the project will result in inundation of the villages. “I have told the PWD Minister to get rid of the pipe culverts and instead go for huge box culverts along the stretch. The PWD Minister has assured me that additional culverts will be built along the stretch to take care of flooding,” Vijai said.
