The notified fish market at the SGPDA complex remains shut in the wake of the Covid pandemic lockdown, with the Fatorda police even driving away an odd vendor found selling fish in the market.

Welcome to the western bypass traffic junction falling in Seraulim village, just meters away from the wholesale fish market, where illegal and unauthorized fish vendor swarm the place, selling all variety of fish right under the nose of the law enforcing agencies.

In fact, the western bypass traffic junction in Seraulim literally resembles  a makeshift fish market, with migrant vendors, equipped with baskets, offer fish to the customers. And, they make roaring business with the notified fish market closed in  view of the surge in Covid cases and the prevailing situation pushing the customers to Seraulim to purchase their fish requirements.

Sources in the know said though the wholesale fish market has remained shut for over a fortnight now, fish transporting trucks, especially from Maharashtra has been entered the Salcete, including the western bypass road, Gogol, near the Power house Aquem and other places to unload the fish.

After procuring the fish from the wholesale fish traders, the migrant vendors then offer the sale of fish in retail at the Seraulim traffic junction.
