Chandel village and other isolated villages in Pernem taluka could well benefit from a central government s free wi-fi facility initiative. According to media reports, the BSNL has offered internet to MPs through the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna initiative as part of the MPLAD scheme. BSNL Chairman Anupam Shrivastava on July 25 wrote to the MPs, seeking their support to provide wi-fi services in their respective constituencies or villages. According to Shrivastava, the novel government-funded initiative can offer free wi-fi service in various areas represented by the MPs.

Baillapar river overflows, many parts of Chandel village submerged

Many parts of Chandel village in Pernem taluka were submerged after the Baillapar river, a tributary of Chapora river, overflowed on Monday night. Tillari dam authorities had released water after it reached the danger mark on Monday and this excess water is believed to have led to a sharp rise in the Baillapar river.

PERNEM  According to sources, the Baillapar river was flowing with full force due to the heavy rains. The main road at Chandel was submerged, leaving the vehicles stranded on both sides of the road. Telecommunications were also disrupted as BSNL landlines went out of order, while there is no network coverage for other service providers.
