Will amend laws to offer permanent jobs in pvt sector to Goans, says CM

PANAJI

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced on Friday that the government plans to modify legislation to guarantee permanent employment for Goans in the private sector.

His statement comes after two pharmaceutical companies, Indoco Remedies Ltd and Encube Ethicals, faced backlash for scheduling interviews in Maharashtra for position at their plants in Goa. The recruitment drive was called off amid public criticism and the CM’s intervention.

“Our intention is clear. We prioritise locals for employment, and if necessary, we will revise the existing Labour and Employment Law in the upcoming legislative session...Goans should be given permanent positions in the private sector, rather than temporary roles,” he said.

Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho, on Thursday, told The Goan that the government is contemplating policy interventions and warned the companies against hiring candidates from outside the State.
