Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar on Tuesday said he would focus on solar energy to make power department stronger and more efficient.

"We want to strengthen the power department and if this has to happen, we have to create solar energy. Many people still don't know that there is a subsidy from the Centre and State for solar energy. We will conduct special camps to persuade people to adopt solar energy from the coming month after the election code of conduct," said Dhavalikar, while speaking to reporters at Dabolim Airport on his way to Hyderabad.

Reacting to activists who had claimed that the supreme court had struck down the Tamnar power project, Dhavalikar said it was he who had placed in the assembly that old power lines should be re-aligned for the Tamnar project.

"The Supreme Court has taken the same decision as well and has not struck down the Tamnar project. I had suggested that the project can be taken ahead just by re-alignment and there is no need to cut trees and doing anything else," said Dhavalikar.

"Power supply is great in Goa and Goa is the only state in the country where there is no power shedding. I am happy that after taking over as power minister, we have put a lot of new schemes and plans in place," said Dhavalikar.

"Underground cabling is a very big project and has already begun in cities and urbanised areas. We will take up the works in every place possible. We require a huge fund for underground cabling works across Goa and we will take it ahead after looking into the financial aspect as well," said Dhavalikar.
