Assuring workers that the Congress would go all out to get to the party fold the 67 percent of voters who voted against the BJP in 2022 election, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) chief Amit Patkar on Saturday said the party has decided to stick to one ticket for one family, adding that families seeking more than one ticket will have to work hard for the party for five years.
He further said that the party will have a two-day Chintan Shivir and a workshop in early June to assess the party’s failure in 2022 and to prepare a road map for the future.
“Next four years and 10 months, the Congress will work closely with the people of Goa. We are serious in taking the party forward. Workers will see a change in the party within the next 2-3 months. It has been decided at the Chintan Shivir at Udaipur that 50 percent of the office bearers of the party will be less than 50 years of age. The party will stick to one man, one post and one ticket for one family,” he said, while addressing Curtorim Congress workers at the office inauguration at Curtorim on Saturday.
He added: “We would soon unveil our roadmap on how to rebuild the party and connect the youth to the party. We are serious in reviving the party. I am putting 16 hours a day for the patty. We have voters, but we lack workers,” he said, adding only the Congress is an answer to BJP’s divisive politics.
Patkar said the Congress can return back to power in 2027 if the party is revamped and strengthened to take it forward.
Saying Curtorim has been the Congress bastion over the years, Patkar said people of Curtorim are asking whether the MLA is independent or has gone with the BJP. “People of Curtorim will never go with the BJP. What has happened is against the wishes of the people,” he added.
Saying the Congress needs to work like BJP 24x7, Patkar said the Congress would double its tally to 22 seats in 2027 if the party is strengthened in the changing scenario.
Party leader Moreno Rebello said the Curtorim block office has been opened in order to strengthen the party in the constituency. “We will lay stress on bringing the youth back to the Congress. Congress has done a lot for Goa and we will take the message to the people,” Moreno added.
Party leaders Capt Viriato Fernandes, M K Sheikh, Savio D’Silva, block president Mila Fernandes, ZP member Michelle Rebello, Everson Vales, Mahila chief Beena Naik, Curtorim Sarpanch Milagres Rodrigues and others were present.
