State BJP president Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Wednesday mimicked his Congress counterpart Girish Chodankar saying the BJP would take other parties along in the government formation process, even if the party wins a clear majority after the counting of votes on Thursday, polled in the February 14 polls.
Speaking to reporters, Tanavade also said that unlike the Congress, which had to stash away its candidates in resorts for fear of poaching, the BJP had faith in its candidates.
"Even if we get a clear majority, if we are offered support, we will not refuse it. We will form a government with whoever comes along. We will get a clear majority. BJP will be the single-largest party," Tanavade told reporters.
"BJP is a national party. Decisions are taken and cleared by the central committee. Our leader CT Ravi is already here. Devendra Fadnavis is coming and so is Kishen Reddy (Union Minister). They will co-ordinate with BJP national president, organising secretary, Union Home Minister and take decisions," he also said.
Fadnavis has already described the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party as a "natural ally" for the BJP, even as senior MGP leader Sudin Dhavalikar has said that he is open to talks with the BJP over government formation.
Commenting on Congress MLAs being holed up in a resort since Tuesday, after which they were moved to an undisclosed resort in South Goa on Wednesday, Tanavade said that the Congress had no faith in its candidates.
"Right from the start, when the Congress declared their candidates, they had no faith in them which is why they took them to Temples, Churches, Masjids. They were given an oath that if you are elected you will not join other parties," Tanavade said.
"After elections, they still do not have faith in them. After the exit polls, they have kept all candidates in one place. I think they are being shifted somewhere else today. They should be elected first and such things can follow. But Congress did that at the beginning itself. They do not have faith that they will come to power," Tanavade said.
The State BJP president also said that the BJP on the other hand had confidence in its candidates.
"BJP is confident of coming to power with a clear majority and wresting to power again. We are confident about our candidates. They are at home. After counting (on Thursday) we will call them for a meeting and they will come. We are confident," he said.
