MARGAO
With issues relating to bed availability and oxygen supply almost resolved with admissions coming down in the last few days, doctors manning the 300-odd patients at the South Goa district hospital are facing a challenge of sorts “ saving the lives of patients undergoing treatment for the virus.
The hospital top brass manning the hospital are working out strategies how to save maximum lives out of the 320 patients presently admitted. Doctors are working on various strategies, ranging from shifting the critical patients to the Goa Medical College and hospital, Bambolim.
With admissions at the GMC also coming down in the last few days, the district hospital has already started shifting some of the critically ill patients to the GMC.
“With the nightmare over admissions over, at least for the moment, the district hospital is trying its best to save the lives of the 320 patients presently in the hospital,” informed a senior doctor.
With around 10-plus deaths reported at the South Goa district hospital almost every day, the question of saving the lives of the admitted patients has now received the top priority at the hospital.
While shifting the critically ill patients to the GMC has started, the hospital is toying with the idea of getting all the serious patients, who are presently scattered all over the hospital, at one place.
“We are exploring this suggestion because the critically ill patients will get specialized treatment from the consultants and medical officers at one place. Presently, the patients are being attended by the medical officers, besides Ayush and homeopath doctors,” sources added.
Before implementing the suggestion, the hospital administration is expected to take a call on ensuring that logistics such as ventilators and oxygen supply are in place. District hospital nodal officer, Dr Rajesh Patil, told The Goan, “Out of the 320 patients, there may be at least 30-40 per cent who are critically ill. The challenge is to save their lives,” he said.
