One person was seriously injured, while five houses were damaged and dozens of trees were uprooted, as Cyclone Tauktae caused extensive damage in Bicholim on Sunday.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Speaker Rajesh Patnekar and Mayem MLA Praveen Zantye inspected the affected areas in their constituencies of Sankhali, Bicholim and Mayem respectively, to take stock of the situation.
In Shirgao, a woman was seriously injured and three houses were damaged when a large banyan tree came crashing down. She was later shifted to the GMC hospital for treatment.
Power supply to Bicholim taluka was disrupted since the wee hours of Sunday and many parts of the taluka were without power and water supply till Monday evening.
Bicholim Police Inspector Mahesh Gadekar and Bicholim Fire Station Officer Shripad Gawas were busy attending to various affected areas in the taluka.
Speaker Rajesh Patnekar inspected the damages in various parts of Bicholim constituency and said efforts would be made to provide financial assistance to the affected families.
Mayem MLA Praveen Zatye also visited said that in Mayem constituency, people should get help by inspecting the places which were severely damaged in the storm.
Bicholi Mamlatdar Praveenjay Pandit has directed all talathis in the taluka to submit a report after conducting a panchnama of the affected areas.
