A 34-year-old woman was allegedly attacked with a knife in broad daylight at Vollant, Cortalim, leaving her seriously injured. Her father was also hurt while trying to save her.
According to a complaint lodged by 66-year-old Gokuldas Shirodkar, a resident of Vollant, the incident occurred on Saturday morning around 09:45 on an internal public road.
The complainant said his married daughter, Shital Palekar, 34, had gone out to pluck flowers when the accused, 47-year-old Sushant Narshiv Shirodkar, also of Vollant, approached her.
The accused, reportedly the complainant’s nephew but not on good terms with the family, is said to have been under the influence of alcohol. Police stated he allegedly abused the woman in obscene language and questioned why she was at her parental home despite being married and living in Carambolim.
The situation turned violent when the accused allegedly attacked Shital with a knife, striking her head and neck repeatedly, causing serious injuries. Her father rushed to intervene and was also hurt while trying to protect her.
Both victims received medical treatment. Based on the complaint, Verna police have registered a case of attempted murder.
