Two days after this newspaper highlighted the unsafe condition of the Mapusa bus stand, the issue has escalated, with a formal complaint seeking criminal action against a top official of Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd (KTCL).

Sudip Tamhankar, General Secretary of the All Goa Private Bus Owners’ Association, has approached the police, demanding that an FIR be registered against the Managing Director of KTCL. He has alleged that continued inaction has put public safety at risk at both the Mapusa and Panaji bus stands.

According to the complaint, repeated warnings over the past year were ignored. Tamhankar said he wrote to the authorities on several occasions ” April 16, April 28, May 8 and August 18, 2025 ” highlighting the worsening condition of entry and exit roads and calling for urgent repairs.

He further alleged that even after a site inspection by senior officials, including the Managing Director nearly two months ago, no concrete steps have been taken.

Commuters and bus operators continue to suffer due to the poor condition of the bus stands. Large potholes, damaged surfaces and poor maintenance have made movement difficult and unsafe. Operators say this is affecting schedules and increasing vehicle maintenance costs.

The complaint also questions the functioning of the corporation, noting that while revenue is regularly collected through rents, tolls and parking fees, basic infrastructure and sanitation are being neglected. Overflowing soak pits have added to the concerns.

Tamhankar has urged the police to invoke provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, alleging criminal negligence, public nuisance and endangering lives.

With public concern growing and inaction under scrutiny, attention is now focused on KTCL’s response to the worsening condition of its key bus terminals.
