OLD GOA
The rape and murder of a 24-year-old woman has come to light at Old Goa, two days after her body was found in suspicious circumstances at Dhauji.
According to Old Goa police, the body of Sonia Jaiswal was found lying near
Dhauji helipad on the morning of October 10 and accordingly, a panchanama was conducted. The body was sent for post mortem in GMC and a case of unnatural death was registered. On Friday, the post mortem revealed that the woman was raped and later murdered.
“The post mortem also revealed that there was head injury and strangulation marks on her body, which resulted in the death of the victim,” a police source informed, while adding that there is a possibility that the accused pressed the head of the victim to the ground resulting in her death.
Accordingly, a case of rape and murder was registered against an unknown accused.
The police informed that the body was discovered by a local who had gone to answer nature’s call.
The Goan learnt that the woman was married, but abandoned by her husband. She used to roam aimlessly around Old Goa.
While Jaiswal’s place of origin was unclear, police said she was born and brought up in the State. At the time of going to the press, the police could not zero in on any suspect and investigation was underway.
The police summoned several labourers residing in and around the place for questioning and check their antecedents.
The police informed that the body was already handed over to the family.
