Women called on to be independent, strong

MARGAO

The District Legal Services Authority, South Goa, Margao, organised a legal awareness programme at MMC hall, Margao on the occasion of National Women's Day to create awareness on sexual harassment of women, at workplace, prevention, prohibition and Redressal Act 2013.

Chaired by Margao Municipal Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes, 60 women attended the programme under strict Covid protocols and SOPs.

Apurva Nagvenkar, Secretary of District Legal Services Authority, South Goa welcomed and introduced the chief guest and speakers.

Fernandes gave the introductory speech and spoke generally on harassment of women at workplaces.

Adv Adonis Colaco gave a talk on the usefulness of Lok Adalat, Mediation and Conciliation to reduce litigation.

Deepali Naik, Director, Department of Women and Child Development, was the chief guest and made people aware of the said legislation, and requested them to become financially independent, mentally strong, and to help other women in distress.

Nagvenkar gave a talk on the free legal aid, Lok Adalat programmes and also proposed the vote of thanks.
