PONDA: The Goa State Urban Livelihood Mission in association with Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) on Wednesday organised a day-long comprehensive capacity building programme for women from self-help groups (SHGs).
A number of women attended the programme, participated in interactive sessions and acquainted with several government schemes.
PMC Vice Chairperson Shantaram Kolvekar inaugurated the programme. Councillor Nidhi Mamlekar, Nidhi Punalekar, Geetali Talaulikar, Sitaram Dangui and GSUDA programme coordinator Celsa Antao was present on the occasion.
Antao said the programme was organised to provide information on various government schemes.
“Basically, we are spreading awareness of the scheme pertaining to urban poverty alleviation. Under this, empowerment and skill training, self employment and loan, formation of SHGs and subsidies, and capacity building, these four components are placed before women,” Antao said.
She appealed to the womenfolk to avail benefits of the scheme to achieve progress in life. “It is we who give shape to our family and hence we should be active. Let us empower ourselves with various government schemes,” she said.
Speaking on the occasion, Kolvekar said the BJP government always focuses on women empowerment and has given several schemes. “Be it Laadli Laxmi or Grih Adhar, we have always taken care that women get the benefit of the schemes. I appeal you to avail the schemes with GSUDA, which will help you to make your good future,” Kolvekar said.
Geetali Talaulikar also encouraged women and appealed to avail the schemes.
The information of schemes from agriculture and social welfare departments were provided at the gathering.
