In a first of its kind meet, the Agonda panchayat conducted the Mahila Gram Sabha on Tuesday where the women demanded that the Griha Aadhar scheme for women be enhanced from the present amount of Rs 1,500.

Some women members also asked the sarpanch to felicitate their groups functioning under Self Help Groups, a separate office to store their things and to conduct monthly meetings. They claimed that meetings are presently conducted in houses of some members.
The women also stated that the Abba Card (Health Card) has been registered but no benefits are extended to women on the strength of those cards.
Many women stating that ST, SC women get many other benefits which should also be extended to women in the general category.
During the Mahila Sabha, Dr Classy Furtado and Dr Mamta Naik Bolnekar delivered a presentation on healthy life-style and the importance of a balanced diet.
Social Welfare (Field Worker) Priyanka Velip, Fisheries Surveyor Devanand Lone and Sagar Mitra Ashish Velip explained about the various schemes and respective procedures to avail benefits for the same.
Agonda Sarpanch Prettal Fernandes, Dy Sarpanch Karuna Phaldessai, Panch Fatima Rodrigues and Panchayat Secretary Amol K Naik Gaonkar also attended the first-ever Mahila Gram Sabha.
Incidentally, the Agonda panchayat will also convene its first Bal Gram Sabha (Children’s meeting) on Wednesday.
