The Phoenix Women’s Wing Self Help Group (PWWSHG) and Phoenix Socio Cultural Association (PSCA), Valpoi, in collaboration with Goa AIDS Control Society organised a one-day advocacy workshop on HIV and AIDS for self-help groups at Sayyadnagar-Valpoi.
Speaking at the function, Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) Chairperson Ramdas Shirodkar expressed serious concern over HIV/AIDS cases in the State.
“This type of workshop will impart information on the dreaded disease and it is very important that collective efforts are made to root out disease like AIDS from society,” Shirodkar said.
Applauding the efforts of the Phoenix team, deputy director (IEC) of Goa State AIDS Control Society (GSACS) Umakant Sawant said prevention is the only medicine available for HIV/AIDS.
The resource person Dr Umraskar highlighted different routes of HIV transmission, its prevention and precautionary measures.
“To know one's HIV status, he/she can approach the Integrated Counseling and Testing Centre. Please consult specialized doctors and avoid going to quacks,” she added. She also had an interaction with the women.
VMC Councillor Sayyad Sarfaraz, assistant director GACS Sunita Arudra, founder PSCA president Abdulla Khan and president PWWSHG, Suneza Khan and Preetam Naik also spoke on the occasion.
