The Sewerage and Infrastructural Development Corporation Goa Ltd (SIDCGL) has finally decided to lay the line along the stretch between the new district hospital and the Collector’s office junction along with construction of eight manholes of the North Trunk Main for Margao Sewerage System, started five years ago.

Since the stretch of NH66 has got limited carpet width, which may not allow both way traffic, it has been proposed to divert the incoming light vehicular traffic from the district hospital to Collector’s office junction through temporary diversion road constructed in front of district hospital and then through the fields for a period of four months so as to complete the work smoothly.

It is proposed to divert both way heavy traffic including buses through western bypass i.e., the road from Honda showroom to KTC via wholesale fish market.

While seeking the District Magistrate’s nod to take up the work and divert traffic, the General Manager of SIDCGL has further informed that the completion and commissioning of the new North Trunk Main is very much important and urgent as the sewage is overflowing from non-functional old North Trunk Main line, creating unhygienic conditions in Margao city giving way for spread of vector borne diseases.

Meanwhile, District Collector Jyoti Kumari, has issued a notification for the temporary closure of road and temporary diversion of vehicular traffic to carry out the work of laying of new North Trunk Main of Margo Sewerage System from South Goa District Hospital to Collector’s office junction for the period of 120 days.
