At the Independence Day function organized by the MMC, the tricolour gave some anxious moments to MMC, Chairperson, Sandeep Falari and the municipal staff as the flag refused to unfurl despite best efforts.
Despite tugging at the rope for several times, the flag would just not unfurl giving some anxious moments to the gathering which included Dy CM Francis D’Souza and Dy Collector Narayan Gad.
Finally, Vaman Pawar, a class four employee, offered and scurried up the tall pole and loosened the knot paving the way for its hoisting.
“Pawar volunteered to climb the pole and loosen the knot. It was risky to climb the pole but he did it,” Falari said. Sources disclosed that Pawar was in charge of assembling and fixing the flag for almost three years.
