MARGAO
With the renovation and restoration of the over-century-old Margao Municipal Council heritage building coming a cropper, workers are on the job to take up the immediate repair works before the onset of monsoons.
The Margao Urban Health Centre building, whose façade had crumbled, in the last monsoon, has seen hectic work in the last few days, apparently to complete the work before the monsoons.
In fact, labourers were seen undertaking repairs of the building on the western side, which had witnessed water seepage in the last monsoons. The workers were seen carrying out water proofing works in a bid to plug the water seepage during the monsoons.
The Margao Municipal Council had last year proposed to the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) to take up the renovation of the Margao Municipal building. The project, however, could not see light of the day till date since GSUDA requested the civic body to deposit the funds for the renovation work.
Meanwhile, workers engaged by a contractor roped in by the PWD to undertake the repair and restoration work of the Margao Urban Health centre has expedited the work over the last few days.
PWD officials in private said the repair and restoration work should be ready and complete before the onset of monsoons.
