Workshop on classical music
MAPUSA: A one-week course on ‘The Diversity of Classical Music - a Guide to what makes Classical Music Work,’ by Mark Troop, visiting research professor, Anthony Gonsalves, Chair in Western Music (Goa University) was inaugurated at St Xavier College, Mapusa.
The workshop will be conducted from January 11 to 16 and is open to the general public.
Principal Dr Fr Walter de Sa spoke about how Goans have carved a niche for themselves in various fields, music being a prominent one.
Prof Mark Troop spoke briefly about the topics he will cover in the workshop.
Laxmi Gonsalves, daughter of late Anthony Gonsalves, highlighted how art of music should be pursued with a soul passion, not a money making mind.
“I am extremely happy that the university has come up with a workshop of this nature. I’m sure that the professor will impart valuable knowledge on music and I urge the students to pursue music with a passionate heart and make the best of this workshop,” she said.
Prof Ramrao Wagh, associate professor, co-coordinator of the VRPP, was also present on the occasion.
