The Water Resources Department has on Friday launched desilting of major storm water nullahs in Fatorda Municipal area as part of the annual monsoon preparedness.
Sadly, while the WRD will undertake the annual ritual by desilting the storm water nullahs, there seemed no solution to the rampant discharge of raw sewage and waste water into the nullahs.
That the storm water nullahs played host to blackish water goes to show that all is still not well with the ambitious sewerage project in the commercial capital.
After launching the desilting work, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai admitted that sewage continues to flow into the SGPDA storm water nullah, adding that he has been doing the follow up with the authorities for the early completion of the sewerage works.
The Fatorda MLA directed his ire at the Margao Municipal Council, saying the civic body is giving priority for cricket matches than desilting of the storm water nullahs. He said his office has decided to take up the desilting works in Fatorda if the Margao Municipal Council has no plan in place to clean up each and every nullah in the constituency.
