Yet another dilapidated Vasco bldg in danger of collapse

It poses danger not only to the pedestrians and vehicles during the day, but to the police station, telephone exchange building and a hotel as well. r“We park our scooters and other vehicles under the building during the day as there is not much space inside the telephone exchange to park our vehicles,” said an official of the telephone exchange. r“Most of the things are stolen by miscreants and only the building remains which itself is in danger of collapsing anytime soon,” said the official. rA police official said an 108 ambulance is always being parked below the dilapidated building and besides police personnel, other people visiting the police station and telephone exchange also park their vehicles under the building. r“If the building collapses, then besides injuring the people it will damage vehicles, the telephone exchange and the police station and before this happens, the authorities should act,” said the police official. rWhen contacted Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Deepali Naik and informed about the danger, Naik summoned the municipal engineer and directed to inspect the building and prepare a report to initiate necessary action. rWhen asked about the other two dilapidated buildings, the Happy Apartment whose floor had caved in and eight people were injured, and the Puspanjali building whereby the balcony had collapsed and some families and shopkeepers are still occupying the building, Deepali said the council will write to the Mormugao Deputy Collector to provide security to the MMC staff when they go for forceful eviction. r“One family each is staying in Happy and Puspanjali Apartments and they had come to us to provide one month’s time to vacate the premises. I informed them to vacate within next few days, failing which they will be forcefully evicted,” said Deepali. r“As far as shopkeepers from both the buildings are concerned, they are not accepting our notices and the council has decided to send it by registered post and in the meantime if any calamity strikes the two building, then no compensation will be paid to them as they are occupying the premises at their own risk,” added Deepali.
