Youth Congress activists squatted on the Margao roads on Monday evening to protest over the sentence of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the defamation case and his disqualification as member of Parliament.
The Youth Congress activists descended on the road near the Margao Municipal building when the vehicular traffic was closed by the traffic cop operating the signal. The activists later vacated the road when the signal came for plying of traffic on the road.
Senior party leaders, including North Goa district president Vijay Bhike, Elvis Gomes, Pradip Naik and youth Congress workers participated in the protest. They pointed out that they will continue their protests till justice is meted to Rahul Gandhi. Blaming the BJP leadership including Prime Minister Narendra Modi for trying to silence Rahul Gandhi’s voice, the workers said the people of India and Goa will teach the BJP a befitting lesson.
Elvis Gomes told the media that the BJP government is hell-bent on shutting down the Dabolim airport by forcing the management of international airlines to operate from the Mopa international airport. “What I am demanding is that the government should not shut international flights operating from Dabolim. We have no problem if the government start additional international flights to various destinations from Mopa airport,” he said.
Vijay Bhike told the media that the Congress has planned protests at Panjim to highlight the plight of common man in view of the rising prices of essential commodities.
