VASCO
Vasco police on Wednesday arrested a youth from Vaddem-Vasco after he was accused of posting comments against Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on social media.
Ronaldo D’Souza was arrested after a group of “Shiv Premi” gathered at the Vasco police station on late Tuesday evening and filed a complaint against D’Souza for hurting the sentiments of Hindu community with his remarks.
The members demanded the immediate arrest of D’Souza for his post and remarks made on Shivaji.
When contacted, Vasco PI Kapil Nayak said Vasco police would not tolerate any comments made on any religion which can cause communal disharmony.
“There was a law-and-order situation in Calangute over the Shivaji statue and news started to appear on media. The youth, Ronaldo D’Souza, took to social media to post some comment against Shivaji Maharaj which hurt the Hindu community,” said PI Nayak.
“People then gathered at the Vasco police station and filed a complaint after which Vasco police later brought D’Souza to the police station. D’Souza later apologised to the people and was arrested under Section 151 of CrPC to prevent breach of peace. He will be produced before the Mormugao Dy Collector for further procedures.”
“I advise people to refrain from making comments on any religion. Every person has his own respect for his religion and such comments can hurt the sentiments of people. In Goa, we live together in communal harmony and visit each other’s homes during festivals. People should not make comments on any religion in person or on social media.”
“Vasco police will take stringent action and we will deal with an iron hand in such cases. We will not tolerate such incidents that can disrupt communal harmony in Vasco,” said PI Nayak.
