MAPUSA
A dare-devil bike stunt on the main Mapusa road cost a father-son duo dearly as police arrested both on Monday after a video of the stunt went viral on social media.
While the 20-year-old youth, Yasin Mulla, was arrested for various offences besides performing dangerous stunts on the bike and endangering public life, the father of the youth was arrested for handing over to him the bike keys in spite of knowing he had no driving licence.
The 45-second video shows the youth lifting the front wheels off the road and riding on for several meters on the main road stretch going to the St Xavier’s College near the court junction.
He was also found to dangerously slide the bike on the speed breakers on the stretch.
Incidentally, the video is not a recent one and the incident must have happened some months back.
The video clip suddenly surfaced on the social media forcing the Mapusa police to take prompt action against the accused.
Police traced and arrested the youth and his father who are residents of Dangui Colony, Mapusa.
The scooter which was used to perform the stunt has also been seized.
The youth was charged with Sections 279 (rash driving), 336 (endangering lives) of the Indian Penal Code as well as provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act.
Incidentally, the youth was arrested for a similar offence by Mapusa Police in the past.
