In all, 13 candidates majority of them from BJP filed their nominations for the Zilla Panchayat elections in Bardez on Tuesday.

Eleven of the candidates who filed their nominations were from BJP while two independents also filed their papers before the Returning Officers in Bardez.

BJP’s Dattaprasad Dabholkar filed his nomination from Calangute while the saffron party’s Kartik Kudnekar and his dummy Ashley Agnelo Lobo also filed their nominations from

Socorro constituencies.

Similarly, BJP’s official candidate Radhika Sawant filed her nomination from Penha-de-France. Smita Kalangutkar has also filed from the same constituency as the BJP’s dummy candidate.

Rupesh Naik has filled his form as the BJP candidate from Reis Magos, while Karan Govenkar has also filed as the dummy BJP nominee in the same constituency.

In Siolim, Sanisha Toraskar who is re-contesting on the BJP ticket has filed her nomination and Savita Govekar has also filed her nomination as the dummy candidate for the party.

Niharika Mandrekar has filed her papers as BJP candidate from Anjuna and her dummy is Nidhi Shirodkar.

The two Independents who have filed their nominations are Pallavi Dabholkar from Siolim and Umesh Kauthankar from Colvale.

The Congress and Aam Aadmi Party candidates are yet to open their account and are expected to file their nominations on the last two days.

Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo and former tourism minister Dilip Parulekar accompanied the BJP candidates who filed their nominations on Tuesday.

Several village sarpanchas and BJP karyakartas were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Waste Management Minister, Michael Lobo said BJP has given good candidates for Calangute, Socorro, Penha-de-France and Reis Magos ZP election and all the four candidates will win with

a big margin.

“During our door-to-door campaign we have received good response from the voters. I am confident that all the four candidates will get thumping victory,” Lobo said.

The Waste Management minister said that Mhadei issue has been going on for the last 10 years and it will not have any effect on the

ZP polls.

“I am confident Goa will get justice on the Mhadei issue. The opposition instead of working with the government on Mhadei is only interested in trying to create issues,” Lobo said.

He also said that ZP polls cannot be considered as the semi-final to the 2022 assembly election as it is fought mostly on village/ward issues.

“Last time the ZP result and the assembly election result were poles apart,” he said trying to reiterate his point. Former tourism minister Dilip Parulekar also spoke on

the occasion.

3 independent candidates file
nominations to Khola ZP seat
CANACONA: Three independent candidates on Tuesday filed their nominations to elections to the unreserved Khola ZP constituency even as Poinguinim has received no nomination so far, with two days remaining to file nominations for the ZP polls.
According to reports, Praveen Pradeep Prabhudessai, Guru Bhiva Velip and Dinesh Ghurko Velip, all from Khola, filed their nominations as independent candidates before Canacona Returning Officer Pritidas Gaonkar.
Meanwhile, the BJP has finally allotted its party ticket to Shobana Shabu Velip for the ST (woman) reserved Poinguinim ZP seat.
There were six claimants to the BJP ticket for the Poinguinim ZP seat, while the BJP has already announced the ticket to sitting ZP member Shanu Velip for the unreserved Khola ZP seat.
Both BJP candidates are likely to file their nominations on Wednesday.  In the meantime, three candidates are vying for the Congress ticket in each of the 2 ZP seats in Canacona taluka, but the Congress is yet to announce their candidates as yet.
According to reliable sources, the Congress is reportedly trying to seek some time, as disgruntled former congress youth leader Sanju Naik, who had joined BJP recently, is still being pursued by Congress leaders to contest on the Congress ticket for the Khola seat.
Late Tuesday evening, Sanju Naik, who has now strained relations with his leader and BJP MLA Isidore Fernandes, was reportedly invited for a discussion by Congress leaders for taking a final call.
Reliable sources said the Congress is likely to announce the candidature of Reshma Velip for the Poinguinim ZP seat and Sanju Naik for the Khola ZP seat. Incidentally, Naik, who is from Shristhal, is yet to officially claim the Congress ticket while there are three candidates from Khola, Betul-Naqueri and Agonda who have officially staked a claim for the party ticket claimants for the Khola ZP seat.
In a late evening development, GPCC General Secretary Janardhan  Bhandari said the Congress has declared the candidature of Reshma Velip for the Poinguinim ZP seat.
“Velip will file her nominations on the Congress party ticket on Wednesday,” Bhandari said.
