Eight candidates, including three BJP candidates on Tuesday filed their nominations for the upcoming ZP polls from Bicholim taluka on the fifth day of filing nominations.
The candidates who filed their nominations were Govind Mandrekar (Congress candidate for the Latambarcem ZP constituency), Premendra Shet, Rajesh Kalangutkar and Krishna Volvoikar (independent candidates for the Mayem ZP constituency) and Yogesh Pednekar (MGP candidate for the Karapur ZP constituency).
Three BJP candidates, Gopal Surlakar (Pale ZP seat), Mahesh Sawant (Karapur ZP seat) and Shankar Chodankar (Mayem ZP seat) filed their nominations in the presence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Mayem MLA Pravin Zantye.
Later speaking to reporters, Sawant was confident that the BJP would win maximum seats at the ZP polls.
Meanwhile, GPCC President Girish Chodankar and other Congress leaders including Meghshyam Raut, Varad Mardolkar and Manoj Naik were also present when the Congress candidate Govind Mandrekar filed his nomination.
Chodankar and Raut said the people would elect the Congress candidates as they are fed up with BJP’s tenure, especially because of rising inflation, unemployment and
false promises.
Returning Officer and Deputy Collector Sachin Desai and Mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit were present to accept the nominations of candidates.
