Former Congress MLA from St Cruz Victoria ‘Mummy’ Fernandes affirmed that the candidature of former Rodolfo aide, Prakash Naik, on MGP ticket will have no electoral bearing as “the people know who is with whom”.
Speaking to The Goan after filing his nomination, Rodolfo said,
“My main opponent will be the candidate of the ruling party BJP. MGP’s Pakka (Prakash Naik) used to be with me earlier. He would have drawn voted only if I had not contested.”
Stating that it was at the instance of the people and his own supporters that he decided to contest as an independent, Rodolfo listed employment generation and overall development of the constituency as his goals and expressed confidence that he enjoys the a cross-section support.
Offering an insight into the present political layout in St Cruz, Victoria ‘Mummy’ stated that the constituency has traditionally been a Congress constituency.
“This is a Congress constituency. But the groupism within Congress will ruin all their chances,” she said.
Victoria further explained that Rodolfo
has been instrumental in the rise of Tony Fernandes within the Panchayat.
“But then he joined hands with Babush (Atanasio) Monserrate as the president of his new party and has now secured the Congress ticket,” she said adding that Congress has weakened its own position by announcing Tony’s candidature,” said the former MLA.
