PONDA
The local youth informed The Goan that a villager had applied for a fitness certificate for his Innova taxi, but the officer concerned allegedly delayed the process and on Thursday demanded Rs 500 as bribe.
“I have been going to the office to seek the fitness certificate since the last 10 days, but he had not issued the certificate. On Thursday, he demanded the money and when I refused, he abused me,” the certificate seeker said.
On hearing the news, a group of irate locals from Nageshi barged into the RTO office and the officer in question was not in the office and angry locals tried to locate him in the building.
Two other officers, who were present in the new premises of RTO-Ponda, tried to pacify the locals and persuade them not to create any problem, as the officer at ‘fault’ was due to retire within a few days.
However, the local youth went ahead with their search for the elusive officer on all three floors of the building.
The youth then contacted the officer on his phone and he reportedly apologized for the incident. No senior officer was present in the RTO office to comment on the matter.
