The comments that are unlikely to be received well by the Bharatiya Janata Party, MGP Leader Ramkrishna “Sudin” Dhavalikar claimed that not a single national party will cross 250 seats on its own in next year’s Lok Sabha elections and will need the support of regional parties to make up the numbers.
The BJP which currently has 274 members in the Lok Sabha two more than the required 272 on its own has a simple majority in the House.
“No party on its own will get a simple majority. No party will even cross 250 and the national parties will need the support of alliance partners to form the government -- be it NDA or the UPA,” Dhavalikar told media persons.
When asked why he thinks like this, Dhavalikar said: “It is a fact. That is how politics is now.” Party leader Manohar “Babu” Ajgaonkar said that the Karnataka verdict showed that regional players cannot be ignored.
“The message we get from the Karnataka verdict is that regional parties cannot be ignored. Even in Goa, the BJP needed the support of local parties to form the government,” Ajgaonkar told reporters. The MGP central executive which met on Saturday resolved that the MGP should have the freedom to support any party of its choice and should not be bound to any national party.
The MGP meeting turned heated over the party’s support to the BJP .
