Former minister Mickky Pacheco on Saturday made a plea to the voters to get the Congress candidates elected in the four Zilla Panchayat constituencies of Benaulim, Colva, Nuvem and Raia.

Addressing the media along with his band of supporters, the former Benaulim and Nuvem MLA directed his tirade at Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao over his association with the BJP government, saying the latter should have withdrawn his support to the government for the passage of resolution supporting the Citizenship Amendment Act.

“People of Goa know that I was harassed by the Congress government in 2010. I have been critical of the Congress over the last eight years. But, given the present situation when the atmosphere in the entire country is vitiated by the BJP-led government, I have decided to think about my people and the state,” he said, adding that he has already joined the campaign of the Congress candidates in the four ZP seats.

He replied in the negative when questioned whether he has joined the Congress party and said he will take a decision at the right time. Mickky, however, said that he would ensure that the Congress returns to power in the 2022 Assembly polls.

He urged the people of Colva to extend their support to Congress candidate Suzie Fernandes and added, “The Colva seat was represented by Nelly Rodrigues for four terms and the time has now come to elect Suzie.”

Without taking names, Mickky pointed out that certain political figures had campaigned against him in the last Assembly elections saying a vote for Mickky is a vote for the BJP, adding that these very leaders have now embraced the BJP. “Elect the Congress candidates and I will ensure that they do not go astray after the election,” he said, but had no answer when questioned how he will keep the flock together when os he not even a member of the Congress.

Loutolim Sarpanch Xavier Fernandes and his supporters also attended the media briefing.
