21 victims’ mortal remains of Romeo Lane fire transported to home states: CM

PANAJI: The mortal remains of 21 victims of the Romeo Lane nightclub fire have been transported to their respective home states, including Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Assam, and West Bengal. Arrangements for the remaining four victims are being finalized in close coordination with their families and the concerned state authorities, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said.

“The Government of Goa has extended all necessary support to ensure the dignified transportation of the mortal remains along with their next of kin,” Sawant added.

The tragic fire, which claimed 25 lives, left families devastated, many of whom had sent their young sons to Goa seeking stable employment and better opportunities. To assist grieving families, the state government has deployed a special team under the Sub-Divisional Magistrate to coordinate transportation and documentation for all victims.

Meanwhile, the Goa police have moved to secure a Red Corner Notice for the arrest and extradition of Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, owners of Birch by Romeo Lane, who fled to Thailand shortly after the fire. Both, along with five others, are booked for culpable homicide.

The latest accused, Bharat Kolhi, 49, the operations manager of the club and the fifth accused in the case, was brought to Goa today after his arrest in Delhi yesterday. Earlier, a Mapusa court remanded four senior managers, arrested on Sunday, to six days of police custody. The arrested managers include Rajiv Modak (49) “ Chief General Manager, Priyanshu Thakur (32) “ Gate Manager, Rajveer Singhania (32) “ Bar Manager, and Vivek Singh (27) “ General Manager.
