Criticising the Congress for failing to function as an Opposition, AAP State President Amit Palekar however urged for unity among opposition parties to corner the BJP government.“The Congress failed to function as an Opposition in the Assembly as its MLAs failed to perform. They have destroyed democracy by betraying the faith of the people who voted for them,” Palekar stated.
“Though we had only two MLAs, they raised the most questions with MLA Venzy Viegas raising 172 questions and MLA Cruz Silva raising 134 questions,” he informed.
To a question on GPCC chief's statement on cross-voting for Presidential polls, Palekar said that everybody knows which party MLAs cross-voted.
“Before making allegations against other parties, the Congress needs to put its house in order,” he added.
On AAP not supporting Congress candidate for deputy speaker's post, Palekar questioned how they could support a candidate whose husband is facing a disqualification plea from that party.
However, Palekar called for unity among the Opposition parties to corner the BJP government.
“The need of the hour is to come together as a united opposition so that the government is cornered. Otherwise, they will finish Goa,” Palekar said.
“We invite Congress as well as other parties to come together. We will all sit together and take forward the issues concerning Goa and Goans,” he appealed.

“Also, I raised the issue of the death of tourist at Colva beach due to electrocution after which the government gave Rs 5 lakh as compensation,” the MLA informed and stated that he will continue taking up issues concerning the common man.
