Like the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP), the Aam Aadmi Party had heralded its presence in a big way in minority Salcete in the 2017 Assembly polls, polling a consolidated 20,000-odd votes in the taluka, around 21,720 to be precise.
AAP’s impressive performance in the 2017 Assembly election might have prompted then party Convenor Elvis Gomes to throw his hat in the 2019 Lok Sabha electoral ring, hoping to encash on the support received by the party in Saxtti countryside in the Assembly polls.
As it turned out, however, AAP’s Lok Sabha campaign ended on a disastrous note, with the party barely managing to poll around 13,940 votes from Salcete, indicating that AAP tally of votes came down drastically as compared to the 2017 Assembly election, leaving the party stranded far behind the two key political players.
