Members of the Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) visited the village of Goltim-Navelim in Divar to extend support to the locals on the Shivaji statue issue and also to demand arrest of the accused involved in the vandalisation of the same.

Speaking to The Goan, ABVP Goa general secretary Audhoot Kotkar condemned the incident of vandalisation of the statue and demanded that the accused be arrested.

Kotkar further said that it was only Chatrapati Shivaji who fought against the Portuguese during the inquisition period when the people were made to go through hell.

“Also, in Divar, there was the Saptkoteshwar Temple which was destroyed by the Portuguese and the same was re-established by Shivaji in Narve-Bicholim,” Kotkar informed.

Another member Dhanashree Mandrekar demanded that a new statue of Chatrapati Shivaji be installed at the site and till that time the ABVP will continue supporting the locals of Goltim-Navelim.

A local Mohan Priolkar expressed happiness over the students extending supporting to the villagers on the issue.

“It was a good initiative taken by the locals of installing the Shivaji Maharaj statue. They did nothing wrong and being the owner of this plot, I will always support such initiatives,” Priolkar added.
