In a surprising turn of events, Anjuna police on Sunday evening registered both a complaint and a counter-complaint in connection with the assault incident that occurred during the gram sabha meeting at the Anjuna panchayat hall.
Dr Inacio Fernandes, a vocal opponent of loud music, filed a complaint stating that he was attacked by several individuals, including Gajanan Tilve, Carlos Fernandes, Rohan Naik, Yogesh Govekar and Seby D'Souza, during the meeting.
According to Dr Fernandes, the accused pushed him, assaulted him with slaps and punches to his face and head and caused him simple injuries.
He further claimed that he was verbally abused with obscene language and wrongfully restrained during the incident.
Based on his complaint, the Anjuna police registered an offence under Sections 126(2), 115(2), and 352, in connection with the BNS 2023 Act.
In a counter move, Gajanan Tilve also filed a complaint accusing Dr Fernandes of abusing him near the Anjuna panchayat earlier that day.
Tilve alleged that Dr Fernandes threatened him with dire consequences and physically assaulted him while trying to enter the panchayat to attend the gram sabha meeting.
The police registered an offence under Sections 352, 351(2), and 115(2) of the BNS 2023 Act in response to Tilve’s complaint.
Both cases are under investigation by the Anjuna police.
