The Goa Green Brigade has strongly condemned the assaults on activists during gram sabha meetings in Anjuna and Camurlim on Sunday.
In Anjuna, Dr Inacio Fernandes, known for his fight against noise pollution, was attacked while advocating for citizens' right to peaceful living.
Similarly, in Camurlim, environmental activist Nubert Fernandes was allegedly assaulted by a panchayat member and her husband after filing a PIL against a multi-dwelling villa project on the eco-sensitive Camurlim plateau.
Despite Nubert filing a written complaint, Colvale Police reportedly refused to register an FIR against the alleged assailants. Instead, they arrested him, sparking accusations of bias and intimidation.
“This failure to act against the culprits while targeting activists in an arbitrary manner is unacceptable,” said Avertino Miranda, Convenor of the Goa Green Brigade.
The group has called for accountability and fair treatment to protect activists fighting for environmental and civic causes.
