Admitting that the government initially slipped up in Covid management in the State, the BJP on Thursday said the situation has now been brought under control.
The BJP also said that its karyakartas and MLAs went out of their way to reach out to those who were in need during the Covid crisis.
“Initially, there was a shortage of beds in hospitals and oxygen supply was also in short supply. But now the government has installed an oxygen tank with a capacity of 20,000 litres at GMC Hospital and private hospitals have been directed to admit Covid patients for treatment. All this was possible thanks to the government,” said Mahanand Asnodkar, President of the North Goa District BJP Committee.
The North Goa District BJP Committee chief was addressing a news conference at the party’s Mapusa office in the presence of district BJP committee Vice President Franky Carvalho, General Secretary Rajsingh Rane, North Goa ZP Chairperson Kartik Kudnekar and ZP member Girish Uskaikar.
Continuing, Asnodkar said the government fell short of ambulances as the number of Covid patients increased but the prime karyakartas and MLAs pitched in by arranging ambulances within their areas.
He also acknowledged the contribution of North Goa MP, Shirpad Naik who donated ambulances and hearse vans at the hour of need.
He further disclosed that during the crisis many of the BJP karyakartas went door to door and arranged to deliver the medical kits at the doorsteps of the patients.
“Now, the Covid situation in the State has come under control even though it may not be 100 per cent,” Asnodkar said.
The North Goa ZP Chairperson Kartik Kudnekar slammed the opposition for trying to draw political mileage during the Covid crisis.
“Instead of fighting the Covid pandemic together the opposition including the Congress, AAP and other regional parties were creating a hullaballoo to score political points,” Kudnekar said.
He said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were doing a commendable job while handling the Covid crisis in the State and the country.
