Accusing the BJP of being responsible for the crisis in the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra, NCP State President Jose Philip D'Souza on Thursday said the BJP was hungry for power at any cost across all states.D’Souza said he had spoken to his party leaders, Sharad Pawar and Praful Patel, and had faith that Pawar would thwart BJP’s attempts to form the next government in Maharashtra.
"We have full faith in our party leaders that they will find a way to resolve the issue and thwart another plan by the BJP to grab power through the back door. In 2019, the BJP wanted to form the government and a similar situation was choreographed, but Sharad Pawar managed to outwit the BJP and create the MVA alliance which formed the Government,” said D'Souza.
“As long as Pawar is a part of the discussion, we don't feel that there is anything to worry because he has been known to do wonders and change the situation overnight.”
"BJP had done the same thing in Goa in 2017 after they managed to form the government despite not having the numbers and they may do it again as there is news that six Congress legislators who pledged against defection in temples and churches are waiting to join the BJP.”
D’Souza said people had lost faith in elections due to such mass defections which can topple any government at any time.
“This has to stop somewhere and the need of the hour is to get a very strong legislation against mass defection so that parties can remain intact. People elect MLAs hoping to take up development but the same MLAs are now on the spree of mass defection and jump in and out of parties wholesale," said D’Souza.
