Call to hand over Siddhi Naik case to CBI

MARGAO
The National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations, Goa has demanded justice for Siddhi Naik, Indra Kumar Meghwal and Bilkis Bano on priority basis.

Briefing the media at the Lohia Maidan, Margao on Saturday after the authorities rejected permission for the organisations to hold a protest opposite the Old Collectorate building, the NCHRO demanded handing over the investigations into the Siddhi Naik death case to the Central Bureau of Investigations.

Activists Anthony D’Silva and others also slammed the authorities for refusing to grant them the permission to hold a protest meeting, terming the police decision as anti-democratic.

Saying that the NCHRO-Goa is not satisfied with the Crime Branch’s move to close the case, Fr Savio Fernandes demanded a high level probe into the death of Siddhi Naik. “The condition in which her body was found on the Calangute beach on 12th August, 2021 and police observation on the death is questionable. The culprits of this heinous crime may be some influential people and as such, the investigation should be handed over to the CBI,” he demanded.
