CCP polls: ‘We Ponjekar’ releases list of candidates

The team formed by citizens to contest the Corporation of the City of Panaji elections against Panaji MLA Atanasio Monserrate's BJP panel, 'We Ponjekar' contains eight candidates with experience as corporators. The panel includes three sitting corporators and five former corporators.

We Ponjekar citizens group has fielded 22 new faces and out of the remaining eight candidates, three are sitting corporators and five ex-corporators and have ensured that every one of the 30 CCP seats will have a contest.

The 'We Ponjekar' panel include Surendra Furtado (former mayor), Nelson Cabral, Bharati Heble, Ruth Furtado (former corporator), Ratnakar Fatarpekar (ex-corporator), Suresh Chopdencar (ex-corporator), Sheela Pai Lotlikar (supported Independent), Rekha Kande (supported Independent and former corporator), Devendra Kuttikar, Jose Martins, Milind Shirodkar (supported Independent and former corporator), Tushar Asulkar, Joel Andrade, Sandeep Heble, Rama Naik, Meera Medhekar, Nilkhant Chari, Varuna Mandrekar, Ramnath Bandodkar, Selvyn Godinho, Alisha Chari, Damu Vaigankar, Parshuram Kerkar, Saquib Quadri, Uma Volvoikar, Vasudev Manerkar, Rupa Dalvi, Aalisa Simoes, Acacio Tavares (supported Independent) and Muktamala Fondvekar.

Several prominent citizens of Panaji have joined hands to fight against the panel floated by MLA Monserrate and BJP in the elections to the CCP scheduled for March 20.

Former Mayor Surendra Furtado has been nominated as Convenor, while outgoing corporator Menino da Cruz, lawyer-activist Malisa Simoes, sports administrator and RTI activist Sandeep Heble, lawyer and former corporator Suresh Chopdekar, Adv Pundalik Raikar and youth leader Sayad Saquib Khadri have been nominated co-convenors of 'We Ponjekar'.
