The Raia village gram sabha on Sunday rejected the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) for the village prepared by the government.
At the gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Esmeralda Gomes, members also demanded that the government remove the port limits shown in the river Zuari.
The meeting also discussed the Bio-diversity register which was placed before the gram sabha. The biodiversity register was later adopted by the gram sabha.
The meeting, however, witnessed an uproar over the budget estimates prepared by the panchayat for the financial year 2021-22.
Members including Edwin Vaz, Anthony Barbosa and former sarpanch Xavier Fernandes picked hopes in the budget estimated and demanded that the panchayat make the necessary corrections.
Xavier demanded to know how the panchayat can expect to earn revenue amounting to Rs 4 crore when the annual revenue of the panchayat has not crossed the Rs one crore figure in the last two financial years.
After much discussion, it was decided that the panchayat would make the necessary changes in the budget estimates and present the same again at the adjourned meeting on March 21.
