Nachinola panchayat to soon get waste disposal facility

MAPUSA
Nachinola’s Deputy Sarpanch Freddy Fernandes informed the gram sabha on Sunday that the panchayat would soon set up a waste disposal facility in the village.

He informed that the panchayat has taken into possession the land from the local comunidade where the material recovery facility (dry waste facility) will be set up.

“We have received a no-objection certificate from the Pollution Control Board for the site. Very soon a compound wall will be erected around the site,” Fernandes said.

The deputy sarpanch was responding to a query of garbage collection raised by a villager Anita Govekar at the gram sabha.

In absence of the sarpanch Pooja Matkar who recently resigned from her post, the deputy sarpanch chaired the gram sabha meeting. Except for Matkar, all panchayat members were present for the meeting.

The local, Anita Govekar also proposed that the panchayat should purchase a new vehicle for the collection of waste in the village.

The deputy sarpanch informed that the panchayat has already decided to purchase a rickshaw for waste collection through the MPLAD funds.

“The proposal has been prepared and submitted in the concerned department. We expect to get the vehicle by May,” he said.

Some villagers also raised the issue of uneven speed-breakers some of which cannot be sighted.

The villagers suggested that all speed-breakers in the village should be repaired and regularly painted to avoid mishaps.

Panchayat member, Satish Govekar also stressed on the need to repair a speed-breaker in Ward 4 which could endanger the lives of children due to speeding vehicles.

The village panchayat also presented and passed the budget for the financial year 2021-22.
